Is Grok uncensored?
Partly. In our test Grok 4.7 wrote everything we asked, which neither GPT model did. Images are a different matter: since January 2026 xAI has limited how Grok creates and edits pictures.
Our test: Grok 4.7 vs GPT and an uncensored model
On 21 October 2026 we sent the same eight prompts to four models available in UncutGPT, once each, with no system prompt or custom instructions. The prompts are the kind of adult requests people say mainstream AI refuses.
Grok added a short risk warning to the festival question and answered everything else straight. GPT-6.1 Sol softened the explicit scene and the gore. The uncensored model wrote everything.
We tested the models directly, the way UncutGPT connects to them. The ChatGPT and Grok apps add their own instructions and safety settings, so they can be stricter, and the same model can answer differently on another run.

What changed with Grok images in 2026
In early January 2026, people used Grok on X to make sexualized edits of photos of real women and children without their consent. On 9 January, xAI limited image generation and editing on X to paying subscribers, while the separate Grok app at first still allowed free images.
Lawmakers and victims called the paywall insulting and said it didn't fix the problem. That's the background to searches like “grok censored now”: for images, Grok is stricter than it was and costs money.
Why Grok can still feel censored
- Image generation and editing on X are limited to paying subscribers.

- Replies vary from run to run, so a request that worked once can be refused the next time.
