Generally fine to share
- The context of your question, without full names.
- Drafts you're happy for a provider to process.
- General health or money questions without identifying details.
Keep out of AI chats
- Passwords, recovery phrases, card and bank numbers.
- Government ID numbers and scans.
- Other people's private information.
- Confidential work data your employer hasn't approved.
Why caution makes sense
Messages are processed on the provider's servers and are often stored. Even with good intentions, data can be exposed through breaches, legal requests or mistakes. Treat an AI chat like any online account.
